The other day my husband and I were talking about classic breakfast foods we grew up on....cream of wheat, oatmeal (affectionately called mush), grits and eggs, and wheat hearts to name just a few. I must admit that I am the most mundane of cooks when it comes to breakfast. We have just about every flavor of cereal along with toast and homemade jam...but that is the extent of my breakfast making creativity. It's just not a meal that I have ever put a lot of time into. My husband gently pointed out that all of these breakfasts that we grew up on are much more healthy (and budget friendly) than the vitamin-fortified cold cereal we consume by the box daily. So, getting the hint, I decided that we would try one today...cream of wheat. I presented it to our kids with excitement (maybe a little too forced??) to be able to try something new and yummy!! Everyone said they loved it...I even had them add some brown sugar...but their bowls were still 90% full when they left the table. Our youngest just played in it and splattered it on everyone near him. I don't think they are going to ask for it tomorrow! Before I give up on cream of wheat and try the next one on my list, do you have any favorite cream of wheat ideas that I could try?
