Summer Days

Blogging has had to take a back seat lately...ever since arriving home from our fun trip to Oregon, we have felt the squeeze! You know the feeling that summer is quickly slipping away and we better hurry and squeeze in all our last minute adventures??? Yep, we have been busy having fun. A few of our recent activities have been:

Cheering Mom in a local 10k road race.

The kids were great cheerers at the finish line...I finished 14th....next year the boys want to join me.

We also had a corn party! My husband has tales to tell of his family corn parties...they were pretty large ordeals. We only did 5 dozen, but it was still a family endeavor.

Husking the corn...

This guy peeled it husk by husk....

and finally got to the kernels.

Getting all the "hair" off was the hardest part.

He couldn't wait to eat some.

She was pleased with each ear she husked all by herself.

The real work came when it was time to cut the corn off the cob.

Our youngest kept busy in his "cave."

We ended up with 17 quarts that we put in our freezer. Yummm!!

It wouldn't be summer if we didn't go fishing at our local fish pond.

These two wanted to fish too, but I could handle only two lines at a time...untangling is a tough job!

We got a couple of nibbles, but not a single fish liked our bait.

They were soooo close too, we could see them!!
We'll hope for better luck next time!!

Last Day in Oregon

We spent one last day in Oregon at my parents' house. It was relaxing and fun. Our theme was helping:

Grandpa needed some help moving a bunch of rock. The older boys loaded up the wheelbarrow.

While the younger boys "helped" push the wheelbarrow.

And steered the wheelbarrow.

And made sure the wheelbarrow wasn't too light when it was empty.

Then they "helped" smooth out the rocks.

Afterwards they helped my youngest sister wash her new car.

Some helped make it dirty again.

So they recleaned it and buffed it to a shine.

And then helped eat lunch.

After lunch our daughter helped Grandpa find the names of all Grandma's flowers.

Grandma has lots of beautiful flowers in her yard.

I "helped' the flowers by taking their pictures. Here are some of my favorites:

Our last day in Oregon was lots of fun...we will remember this trip for a long time.

Lighthouse and Souvenirs

We spent our last day at Newport seeing some last-minute sights.

We drove up to Cape Foulweather. These were the condos we stayed in.

We could see for miles.

Cuties.

There was a little gift shop there. I let the kids each pick out one souvenir.

Some little shells.

A pirate sword.

A necklace.

Another necklace.

We also visited the lighthouse.

There were a ton of birds on this rock next to it.

Quite a view!

Taking a picture of himself.

Going up the spiral staircase in the lighthouse.

The view up.

The view down.

The picture he took.

The view from the top.
The light.

Kids at the top.

One last look. The Oregon Coast was so fun. We will remember our adventures for a long time. That afternoon we headed back to my parent's house for one last day in Oregon before the long ride back to Utah.
