The Wyoming Deer Hunt

This years' deer hunt was a huge success! As always. We spent many days getting ready, packing, and praying for decent weather. The weather cooperated and other than a little mechanical trouble on the way out, things went pretty smoothly. We have been really proud of our boys as they have mowed lawns all summer. They were able to pay for a big chunk of their deer hunt this year with their lawn-mowing money.

I'm still waiting on a few pictures, but I'll add them later. The first part of the deer hunt was spent with our good friend, Mark, and his son, Noah. Good memories were made that will live on for many years! Several big bucks were taken by this fun group:

Noah shot a big buck and so did his Dad.

This year our second oldest was old enough to shoot his first buck, and he was a dandy!

Our oldest shot a nice buck too. I'm waiting on a pic, but here is one that I took when they got home.

Four days later, Grandpa, Uncle Beau, and two cousins arrived to join the hunting party. The land owner let them hang their deer in his barn. Makes for a fun photo.

Cousin Tanner shot a big buck.

Cousin Stratten also shot a nice one.

This year Grandpa got the little fella...but was just so happy to be on the hunt with all the boys. I know the boys made memories with Grandpa that they will remember their whole lives.

The boys both bought doe tags to help fill our freezer.

My hubby shot a nice buck on the last day. He struggled a bit because he missed two bucks earlier on in the hunt and started to question his shooting ability. (Yes, it really rocked his world!) Upon close inspection, he discovered that the stock on the rifle he was using had swelled and had unseated the barrel. (Relief!) He borrowed his Dad's gun and shot this buck the next day.

The gang arrived home after 9 days of hunting! They had a wonderful time, but I was a little worried about all their missed schoolwork. However, in just a few days they were completely caught up. It took me longer to catch up on all their laundry!!

But that wasn't the only work they had to do! As a family we spent the next 3-4 days butchering four deer. We now have a freezer with 85 lbs of ground venison and 20 quart bags of steak. A successful hunt indeed.

  1. I am amazed at all this--and so happy that Chad's gun was at fault!! What a fun trip! Great shots of all the deer! Pun intended!
